Ondes Martenot demonstration by Geneviève Grenier I OFF THE SCREEN I Exploratorium
Developed in the early days of electronic instruments, the Ondes Martenot, characterized by a fragile and intricate design, produces a wholly unique and deeply evocative sound that transfixes musicians and listeners alike.
Geneviève Grenier will present a special demonstration of this rare and ethereal instrument as part of an OFF THE SCREEN program by the Exploratorium’s Cinema Arts program. One of the foremost ondists in the world, Grenier has been a member of the Ensemble d’ondes de Montréal since 1988 and has performed with a host of international orchestras and musical artists.

aw man,.. i missed a chance to see an ondes close up :/
Hello there ! To everyone who ever dreamed about owning one of those, I heard some crazy japanese found in love with the ondes and have been working 15 years on them.
He does not want the ondes to die and want to bring them back to life so he is actually making them compact and will sell them for 499 euro.

You are so very musically talented and technologically skilled. Both so needed for this instrument. Just wonderful. One of my favorite Martenot videos on youtube.
09:20 Reminds me of the library scene in Ghostbusters 🙂 Cool instrument!
someone needs to do this in correct English, the mistakes and errors are annoying, plus the camera poorly positioned and her mic at wrong angle 🙁
Clumsy presentation not fit for TED
Some people are hard to satisfy. Yeah, they should redo the whole performance with "correct" English, because I had absolutely no clue what was going on. Man, come on. This was a great performance and demonstration just the way it happened.Very happy to hear the instrument. Not annoyed at all really.
Beautiful performance. Could someone please tell me the name of the piece that she played at 16:00?
I unfortunately couldn't hear her well when she said the composer.
Such a nice instument. Like playing guitar its wild and intensive to use. And it sounds nicer than those unreal synts. I prevere the Martenot over any other keyboard. Hands on you feel blues and jazz.
my gosh. that louvier piece was incredible.
Somebody direct me to Ghostbusters.
Eastern scales on that thing take you to another world.
5:20 reminds me a bit of the tutorial music from the first Kingdom Hearts game.
GHOSTBUSTERS!!!! I finally know what instrument they used to make those sounds.
